Coin value lookup: what is my coin worth?
·
By GoldGuy. First published Oct 24, 2026. Catalog data and collector estimates: Numista, loaded live; melt: Bullion Price Check spot (gold-api.com).
Most gold and silver coins are worth at least their melt value: the metal inside at today's spot price (as of Oct 31, 2026 2:24 AM ET, silver $49.25/oz and gold $3,876.40/oz, gold-api.com). Search for your coin below to see its weight and fineness, its melt value, and Numista's live collector estimates by grade for your year.
Look up a coin
Example result: search “Walking Liberty”, pick N#4455 (Walking Liberty half dollar, 1916–1947, 90% silver, 0.36169 oz of silver) and the melt value is $17.81 at silver spot $49.25 (gold-api.com, Fri Oct 30, 2026, 5:17 PM ET, market closed). Numista's collector estimates by grade appear next to it when you run the lookup; we don't store them.
Melt uses the weight and fineness Numista lists for the coin type you pick, times our live spot price. Numista lists gross weight; we only compute melt when the composition is a single precious metal with a stated fineness.
How to read the result
- Check the N#. Each result shows its Numista catalog number (N#). Pick the one that matches your coin's country, denomination and years.
- Melt value is the metal content times spot. It changes with the metal price, not with the coin's condition (unless the coin is worn light).
- Collector estimates are Numista's figures by grade, from G (good, heavily worn) to UNC (uncirculated). If the estimate for your grade is close to melt, the coin is selling for its metal.
- Get offers. Before selling a coin that may be worth more than melt, get more than one written offer. See how to sell silver coins or how to sell gold.

Frequently asked questions
What is my coin worth?
Start with melt value: the metal in the coin at today's spot price. For gold and silver coins that is the floor. A collector may pay more for a scarce date or a well-kept coin; the lookup shows Numista's live estimates by grade so you can see the gap.
How do I look up a coin's value?
Pick the country, type the coin's name or denomination (for example "Morgan dollar" or "50 pesos"), pick the matching catalog entry by its N# number, then pick the year to see Numista's estimates by grade next to melt.
What is the difference between melt value and collector value?
Melt value is the metal content times spot, the same for every coin of a type. Collector value depends on date, mint mark, rarity and condition, and only applies if a buyer wants the coin as a collectible.
Are these collector values an offer?
No. Numista estimates come from its collaborative catalog and are not an appraisal, a grade or an offer. Bullion Price Check does not buy coins and does not set collector values.
Why does the lookup say it is unavailable?
We use a limited monthly allowance of Numista requests. When it runs out, or if we switch the lookup off, melt values on our coin pages still work.
Numista data on this page (issue lists and collector price estimates) is loaded live from Numista each time you ask for it, through our server, and is not stored by Bullion Price Check. Numista is a collaborative catalog: its estimates are not an appraisal, a grading or an offer. Source: Numista (numista.com). Numista is a trademark of its owner; no endorsement implied.
