Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a gold or silver price is fair?
Compare it with spot and with what other dealers ask for the same product today. Enter the quote above: the checker shows the premium over the metal value and whether the quote is below, inside or above today's range of listed dealer prices.
How do you calculate premium over spot?
Premium = price minus melt value, where melt value is the troy ounces of pure metal times the spot price. Premium % = premium divided by melt value, times 100. A 1 oz coin quoted at $55 with silver at $50 has a $5 (10%) premium.
Why is a local coin shop quote higher than online prices?
Online prices here leave out shipping and sales tax, and they are single-unit check or wire prices. A shop quote you can take home today has no shipping. Use the true cost calculator to compare delivered totals.
Does Bullion Price Check sell the coin?
No. Bullion Price Check compares listed dealer prices and does not buy or sell metal. Always confirm the price at the dealer's checkout.
