Methodology
Each check takes the lowest listed single-unit price (usually check/wire) that passes our melt filter and subtracts the spot value of its metal, from gold-api.com. A product's daily value is the middle check of that US Eastern day, and each sub-index is the median of its three basket products. Listed prices leave out shipping, tax and card fees, and partners pay to list, never to rank or to be counted. Full index method.
Dealers, filters and limits
We check 15 online dealers; 11 have had a price counted so far: APMEX, Agate Metals, At Cost Metals, Bullion Standard, Golden Eagle Coins, Hero Bullion, Kitco, MintBuilder, Monument Metals, SD Bullion, Summit Metals. Also checked, no price counted yet: BGASC, JM Bullion, Money Metals Exchange, Provident Metals. Prices at or below melt + 0.5%, or above 1.6× melt, are dropped. Checks per day have ranged from 2 to 32; the latest day is partial; gaps (—) are never filled. Generic listings (random-year coins, bars of various brands) differ from one dealer to the next. These are asking prices, not completed sales.

Frequently asked questions
Why are silver premiums so high?
Mostly arithmetic. Making, shipping and selling a coin costs dollars per piece, and that is a much bigger share of a silver ounce than of a gold ounce. In our index since Oct 15, 2026, the median lowest silver premium is 1.72% over spot against 1.19% for gold.
