How Bullion Price Check collects and ranks bullion prices
Bullion Price Check (bullionpricecheck.com) is an independent US price-comparison website for gold, silver and platinum bullion. It automatically collects single-unit prices from public dealer product pages, computes each offer's premium over the live spot price, and ranks offers strictly by price. It does not sell metal and does not accept paid placement. Last data update: Oct 15, 2026 9:04 AM ET.
What data do we collect?
- 17 popular bullion products (gold, silver, platinum coins and bars).
- Dealers checked: APMEX, Agate Metals, BGASC, JM Bullion, Kitco, Money Metals Exchange, Provident Metals, SD Bullion. Dealers with a readable price in the latest update: APMEX, Agate Metals, Kitco, SD Bullion.
- For each dealer: the single-unit price for the cheapest listed payment method (usually check/wire), with the time we checked it.
- Spot prices for gold, silver and platinum from gold-api.com, timestamped.
How often is it updated?
An automated refresh runs several times a day. Every page shows the time of its data. Dealer prices older than 24 hours are crossed out and never used as “cheapest”.
How is premium over spot calculated?
Premium ($) = dealer price − (spot price × troy ounces of fine metal). Premium (%) = premium ($) ÷ that melt value. Junk silver uses 0.715 troy oz per $1 face value.
What is the melt filter?
A price at or below melt value plus 0.5% is rejected as almost certainly stale or misread. We also reject any price outside 0.9× to 1.6× of melt value. Rejected and unreadable prices appear as “Check price”. We never guess or estimate.
How are offers ranked?
- Strictly by listed price (lowest first), or by premium % on lowest-premium pages.
- No paid placement. Dealers cannot pay to rank higher. Some links are affiliate links, which we disclose. They never affect order.
- Shipping, sales tax, minimum orders and card surcharges are excluded. Always confirm at checkout.
Can I use this data?
