Melt value vs collector value
Every number on this page is metal value only. A dealer or collector may pay much more for a key date, a low mintage, a Carson City (CC) coin or a high grade, and that premium varies from coin to coin and month to month. We do not publish collector price guides. If a coin might be scarce, check the date and mint mark first, then read how to get coins graded and PCGS vs NGC before selling it by weight.
Melting silver dollars is legal. The federal melting ban covers only one-cent and five-cent coins (31 CFR Part 82).
